Tosh Box Set Finally Due To Hit Stores
-
Well, the wait is finally over. The Peter Tosh box set entitled "Honorary Citizen" is due to hit stores (fingers crossed!) sometime later this month. This three disc set has been on the drawing boards for years, mainly from the help of Roger Steffens and Peter's cousin, Pauline Morris. For more information on the set, including a rough track listing of the songs on it, click the "tosh box" icon at the left. A detailed history of the set can be found in the newest issue of The Beat magazine. At the left you can see what the front cover of the set will look like.
500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll
-
The Official Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame webpage (www.rockhall.com) has recently announced the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". The Wailers are prominently featured in the list. Included are: Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Lively Up Yourself" and "No Woman, No Cry"; The Wailers' "Get Up Stand Up" and "I Shot The Sheriff"; and Peter Tosh's "Legalize It". The songs were chosen by employees of the Rock Hall webpage. We're not the only people that think that the Wailers not only shaped reggae music, but music in general!
The Ultimate BMW Tribute
-
If you havn't already pick up a copy of the latest issue of The Beat Magazine! This month is the The 15th Annual Bob Marley & The Wailers Collector's Edition. In it, is a very rare interview from 1976 that Bob did with reporter Rob Bowman.
Also there is a lengthy report of Bob's journey to Brazil in March of 1980 with close friend Jacob Miller. Also in the new issue is several articles on Peter Tosh, including the forthcoming box set (see story above). If your local store doesn' carry it, you can order a subscription directly from The Beat by e-mailing GETTHEBEAT@aol.com.

-"Regatta Mondatta" is the new all-reggae tribute to the rock group The Police. It features reggae artists covering Police songs. The album contains Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers with Sting on the song "One World (Not Three)". The album also features Chaka Demus and the Pliers, Sly & Robbie, Steel Pulse, and many others. The album, scheduled for release on July 29, is on the Pangea/Ark 21 label.
-A new bootleg CD of Bob Marley & The Wailers entitled "Live In Chicago 1975" hits stores sometime in July on Japan label. The concert is most likely from the June 10, 1975 show at the Quiet Knight Club in Chicago, Illinois. Buyers can expect to pay as much as $30+ for this CD.
-We recently spotted a copy of a new promo CD for the forthcoming 10-CD JAD Records release "The Complete Wailers" box set. The CD featured the rare Wailers song "Sugar Sugar" (check out our Wailers Sounds link for a sampling of this song) and "Rock To The Rock". Don't expect to see this promo CD in most stores because this was a French only release, selling around $100.
